Metal Mailboxes: Extra precautions should be taken with the copper or brass mailbox doors, and the brass and copper flag (if applicable) because they are handled more frequently. Waxing brass or copper mailboxes with car wax every time you wax your car should prevent any problems. Wax powder-coated mailboxes several times per year for long-lasting good looks EXCEPTIONS should be made for Matte Black finished boxes, these should only waxed with a polish meant to be used on the Flat Black areas of your car. Armor-All may also be applied to these powder coated boxes, but keep in mind they will cause dust to collect and stick to the finish as they will leave a silicone residue. So if you live on a dusty dirt road, it's advised you stay clear of these silicone based products and stick with the wax based products. Light machine oil or grease applied to the door hinges, and where the flag hinges, is also a very good idea every couple of years, or as you notice them requiring more effort to move or open. Wood Mailboxes: Boxes with applied coating such as paints and stains, will need to be hosed off occasionally to remove road dirt and dust. A refreshing of the finish should be done when you repaint your home, if paint is applied to the box, or when you restain your deck, if stain has been used. Mayne Plastic Posts: |
