Copper Cupola Frequently Asked Questions

Q'     What is the difference between regular copper and patina finish ?

A:      All of theses copper products start out bright in color but will patina over time-first bronze then greenish.  If desired, we can put chemical on the copper to speed up the aging process and create a beautiful verdigris green color.  If you let the copper age naturally, the general progression sis that the copper will first turn to a dark bronze upon oxidation( due to the natural elements).  The next step would be that the copper would turn to a copper sulfate, which is the verdigris green color. This would naturally take 5-20 years depending on the environment where you live.

Q'      What is the gauge of the copper used?

A:      These durable creations are made from a standard 22 gauge-16 oz (0216 inches) solid copper sheets.

Q'    I can order a size that is not listed?

A:    We offer a variety of sizes for almost every item we carry. If you have a custom size in mind, we welcome your order.

Q'    How are these products made?

A:    All of our products are hand-crafted by skilled artisans who have mastered the art of fabrication us "old World" techniques.

Q'    What type of maintenance is required when using Copper products?

A:    That is the beauties of using Copper, it's maintenance free and will last a life time!!

Q'    Do copper cupolas and finials attract lightening? Should I have them grounded?

A:    We do not suggest making any kind of grounding provisions for lightening strikes.  Like all metal roof vents penetrations on roofs, finial and cupolas do not attract lightening strikes.  I am not saying that it could not happen, but the only strikes we know of involved our products that had been grounded, thus creating the lightening rod effect.
